Maximum efficiency at minimum height: Bode Bautechnik relies on DOLL® low-bed trailer
It is not only the weight that counts when transporting large construction machines such as excavators or wheel loaders - the transport height is also crucial. If it exceeds four meters, expensive special permits are required. That means more bureaucracy, longer planning and higher costs for transporters. To avoid this, the construction machinery company Bode relies on the DOLL® low-bed trailer X with the DOLL tera® pendular axle. With the 3-axle low-bed trailer, even excavators up to a transport height of 3,700 mm can be transported within the legally prescribed maximum height. The trailer also impressed Bode Bautechnik in terms of handling: The driver can control all central trailer functions from the driver's seat in the truck thanks to DOLL®'s own electronic assistance systems - a real advantage in everyday construction site work.
Bode Bautechnik has been selling and hiring out construction machinery of all sizes for 35 years - from vibratory plates to 37-ton tracked excavators. The medium-sized company delivers even the largest construction machines directly to the customer on request. A DOLL® low-bed trailer X with the DOLL tera® pendular axle is used here. In addition to the payload of up to 45 tons, another aspect was decisive for the choice of the DOLL® trailer: “When transporting the large JCB excavators, the height of the excavator arm is the main restricting factor,” explains Michael Schneider, Transport Manager at Bode Bautechnik. Due to the wide excavator trough of the new low-bed trailer, we can place the arm lower and thus remain under four meters high.” This is made possible by the special design of the DOLL tera® pendular axle: The rear axle chassis offers space for a continuous trough with a width of up to 900 millimeters and a depth of 550 millimeters. Schneider transports the large construction machines across Germany, through narrow city centers, along country roads and steep construction site entrances directly to where they are to be used. Every centimeter of clearance is important: “The DOLL tera® pendular axle with its 600 millimetre hub always offers sufficient ground clearance, even in difficult places with large differences in height.”
The hydraulically lowerable gooseneck enables safe and almost ground-level loading from the front. Alternatively, the vehicle can be loaded with smaller construction machinery via the aluminum ramps at the rear. The low-bed trailer is so low that you can even drive up from the side with the excavator - which of course requires a bit of finesse and experience," adds Schneider. An integrated reversing camera offers additional safety when maneuvering on the construction site. "If the loaded excavator is three meters wide, you have practically no view to the rear. For me, the reversing camera is not an extra, but a real safety function - especially on construction sites with poor visibility."
Operation of the trailer is further simplified by the “DOLL control®” control system. Or as Michael Schneider puts it: “Pre-trip inspection made easy!” A 7-inch color display provides the driver with all relevant information on tire pressure, weight distribution, load positioning or the position of the bead breaking cylinders at a glance. All “DOLL control®” functions can also be controlled via the “DOLL connect®” radio remote control. For Schneider, this makes everyday work much easier: "With our old trailer, I had to get out of the vehicle and connect a cable remote control to the rear of the vehicle to steer manually. Now I can adjust the driving level or intervene in the steering from the driver's cab." If Schneider wants to steer the vehicle again after manual re-steering, all he has to do is press a button on the radio remote control: The electronic track adjustment (EEP) automatically calculates the correct steering angle of the axles. This happens during slow driving around bends - it is no longer necessary to wait for a straight stretch of road.
Flexible in specialist foundation engineering, as well
It was important to Bode Bautechnik to purchase a versatile vehicle. The 60-strong company not only sells and hires out construction machinery, but is also active in specialist civil engineering. The new vehicle therefore also had to be suitable for transporting long sheet piles and steel beams. “With the sliding support frame, an even loading area can be created in just a few simple steps,” reports Schneider. "In addition, the loading area can be telescoped by up to 5,700 millimeters if required. In this way, we can also transport very long goods safely."
